A thought-provoking book – Wabi Sabi: The Japanese Art of Impermanence

To appreciate the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi, one must first make a trip to Kyoto Japan during the sakura/ cherry blossom season.

It is only after one has seen the impermanence of the cherry blossoms and the zen temples { which I did in April 2019} that one can fully appreciates the transition toward a simpler lifestyle and the Japanese appreciation of the impermanence and imperfections of life in the natural world.

Therefore read this book after your trip to Japan. Using accessible and simple English, Juniper explains the origin and development of wabi sabi, its applications to haiku poems, tea ceremony and ikebana the Japanese way of the flower. { p 85}.

He also explains Matsuo Basho’s most celebrated poem :
The old pond
A frog jumps in
The sound of water

I recommend this book.
