2019 is the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon. At the beginning of the 20th century man had never flown in an heavier than air craft. It was only in 1903 that the Wright brothers flew the first plane. And yet less than 7 decades later, men landed on the moon on 20 July 1969.
This book is by far the best book for a reader who wants to know the history of space exploration from the first use of balloons in 1783 to the space station. There are many gems here. I learn a lot of scientific facts from this book. There are many photos and diagrams to accompany the text. Presented in an easy to read and understand manner, this book is a joy to read.
It’s a pity there are no end notes. This book ends with a brief sub-chapter on China’s space program. Readers wanting to know more of China’s space program will have to look elsewhere.
