I bought this wonderful biography on 3 Nov 2004 somewhere on the road from Delhi to Agra on my way to a legal conference at the exquisite Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra resort.
To this day after reading many biographies on The Mahatma, I still find this the best one-volume biography on his many-eventful life. Yogesh has distilled the essential facts, summarised them well, point out the warts and all and yet used the actual writings of Gandhi to let him sing directly to the reader. The end result is a memorable portrait of a life well-loved and lived. This is a book to dip into once a while. For a more detailed biography I would recommend the 2 volume biography by Ramachandra Guha.
