I first read this biography in 2006. Rereading it now that her granddaughter Priyanka Gandhi has entered politics it is still the best biography on Indira Gandhi. I highly recommend this book. It is a joy to read.
KATHERINE FRANK has used her sources well to convey a sympathetic and well-rounded life. We learn of her active involvement in the Indian fight for independence, a seminal event always dominated by Mahatma Gandhi and her dad Nehru.
Read it and appreciate this stunning biography of a woman pushed into a political legacy. As William Shakespeare says in Twelfth Night ” Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em”. Indira Gandhi qualifies on all three counts.
