Strictly a translation – The Qur’an: A New Annotated Translation (Comparative Islamic Studies)

There are 114 suras in the Quran. They are not arranged in chronological order of revelation to the Prophet . Instead they are arranged from the longest to the shortest. Thus it is not easy to read and understand.

This book is strictly for a reader searching for an annotated English translation of the Quran.

Readers looking to read up the themes and topics covered in the Quran should look for a different book. While there is a synopsis of the suras the synopsis is rather brief and lacks linkages to the other suras. So a reader not familiar with the Quran will find himself bogged down with the details without knowing the big picture.

It would have been better if at the beginning of each sura, there is a detailed summary of the themes covered in the sura and its link to the other suras. For this reason a reader should be aware of his needs when looking to buy a book on the Quran.
