This 2018 published 728 page book is the definitive biography on Thomas Cromwell. Readers should not be deterred by the length of this book or the details as the writing is brisk and flows easily.
Macculloch’ s command of the sources is impressive. He has mined sources from Italy, Spain, Venice etc to give us the missing gaps in previous biographies of this most enigmatic of Henry VIII’s Councillor. He has also used excellent epigraphies at the beginning of each chapter.
This book is a worthy successor to Macculloch ‘s Reformation Europe’s House Divided which I enjoyed tremendously.
