A gem of a book. In a mere 167 pages, you get a good idea of the genius of Filippo Brunelleschi. You also get a good insight into the piety of 15th century Florence and the patience of a society who spent more than 100 years to build the cathedral.
Rereading this book in Hong Kong now, for my trip to Florence this Oct, with its many skyscrapers one is reminded how far humans have progressed. Do read this book for an insight into how the dome was built, how the building materials were hoisted up and how one man solved the problem of vaulting the dome.
