A fascinating book – The Oregon Trail: An Illustrated Edition of Francis Parkman’s Western Adventure

When I was age 13 to 15, I read a lot of Westerns. The stories of cowboys, Indians, the US calvary, Custer and the migration routes west fascinated my young mind.

One such famous route was the Oregon Trail. This trial starts at Independence, Missouri and snakes west for 2170 miles to Oregon City, Oregon.

This book is an illustrated edition of a classic journey on the Oregon Trail. It is however a truncated version of the original book. This is because Parkman only traveled one third of the actual route. The publisher therefore has removed parts of the book that deal with other trails. The book is still fascinating with many illustrations used to accompany the original text.
