This fascinating book follows two botanists as they retraced the journeys of a famous plant hunter Ernest ‘ Chinese’ Wilson who spent 10 years in China in search of plants to introduce to Western gardens.
Flanagan and Kirkham made their journey in 2006. Wilson from 1900 to 1911. Accompanying the text of their journey are photos taken by Wilson juxtaposed with photos of the same locations in 2006.
The photos are beautifully reproduced in this coffee table book.
The end result is a fascinating look into Wilson’s China, a century on. Highly recommended.
This book was generously funded by Ian Bond, Michael Heathcoat – Amory, Lord Dulverton and Lady Lennox – Boyd. A note of thanks from me the reader.
