One such book is the Christmas Crackers by the late John Julius Norwich.
Besides being a prolific historian of Venice and the Byzantium empire, Norwich has delighted his friends with a yearly Christmas booklet containing quotes and poems that he had read and enjoyed.
Since 1970 he has been sending this Christmas booklet yearly, in lieu of a Christmas card.
This 64-page Illustrated Christmas Crackers (2002) contains a selection of his favourite pieces.
