St. Catherine’s Monastery’s treasure

Janet Soskice, Jurgen Gottschlich

“You stand on the authority of Scripture, but you cannot determine what was originally written. “

So charged the critics of the Church in the 19th century.

The Greek text upon which the King James Bible was based was known to have inaccuracies.

Determined to find the earliest copies of the Gospels, to answer these critics, drove many adventurers and scholars to the remote St Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai.

These two books i.e. The Bible Hunter and The Sisters of Sinai narrate the discoveries of the Codex Sinaiticus (in 1844) and the Sinaiticus Palimpsest respectively (in 1892) in the library of St Catherine’s Monastery.
