The Cambridge History of China

Denis Twitchett, Michael Loewe

The Cambridge History of China is the most comprehensive set of history on China in the English language.

It is also the most expensive. Each volume is priced at around 100 pounds.

The scholarship is thorough. But unfortunately, the volumes for the entire set have taken many years to be published since the project was launched in 1966. This is due to the decision to divide the chapters in each dynasty among several authors.

Do get the set if you are able. Volume 1 starts with The Chin and Han Empires.
