Bangkok is a city of many facades.
The 5-star hotels are located by the magnificent Chao Phraya River. One can stay at the Shangri-la, which I did this trip, or stay at the venerable Oriental, which I did about 5 years ago. Or one can stay at the Peninsula.
A dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya is highly recommended. Preferably, with live singing.
A walk on Yaowarat road which is the heart of Bangkok’s Chinatown will expose you to the sights and smells of Chinatown. Come try the bird’s nest and the shark fin. The real stuff sells for 500 to 1000 TB a bowl. The street vendors sell from 100 to 150 TB.
