I read this book by James Cowan back in 2013 when it was published.
Rereading it now reminds me of the saying Egypt will always be a country of the imagination.
This book reimagines the Flight of the Holy Family between 7 and 4 BC, according to Coptic tradition.
It is Coptic tradition as Cowan relied on a 4th-century text called The Vision of Theophilus by the Patriarch of Alexandria. [AD 385- 412]
The Flight is only mentioned in Matthew in a brief chapter. It follows after the visit of the Magi. The Flight saved the infant Jesus from the Massacre of the Innocents ordered by Herod Antipas in 7 BC.
The Flight and the Visit of the Magi are not mentioned in the Gospel of Luke.
