Revelation by John is written by either the apostle John that Jesus loves [John 19:26] or another John.
The church fathers can’t agree. Experts even now can’t agree.
Whoever the writer is, he is very learned in the Old Testament. Revelation contains allusions to many passages in the Old Testament, the most of any New Testament book. John does not quote directly but weaves in allusions in his writings. [p 26 Williamson].
This last book of the New Testament by Richard Philips [2017 published] is a useful commentary on the last book of the New Testament.
Philips gives us a verse-by-verse commentary. He provides historical context for his views. It is very readable.
I acquired this book from the Baptist Book Store, Burma Road, Penang, on 28 December 2024. The entire set is available here at a very reasonable price.
The 2nd book Revelation by Peter S. Williamson [published 2015] is a more difficult commentary to read.
It is published by the Catholic Church for those training in pastoral ministry and those who yearn for a deeper study.
Both are recommended.
