Two indie bookstores in KL have started and, thankfully, thrived over the past few years.
Tintabudi in Plaza TTDI specialises in Islamic history and culture books. They also have an eclectic selection of new and out-of-print English books on poetry and literature.
Sunda Shelves on the 1st floor of a shop lot in Damansara Kim focuses on travel, history, and nature books. They have new and out-of-print books.
There is also an in-house cafe, where you can have delicious snacks and coffee.

A History of the Pacific Islands by Campbell is from Sunda Shelves. This is an excellent survey.
