Zhangbi Ancient Castle. Day 5 of Tour.
Hamas’s idea of having tunnels as a defense system in Gaza was already in use in China in 617 AD.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is in Jiexiu, 40 minutes by car from Pingyao Ancient Town.
The castle was built in 617 AD. It has an area of 2,000 square meters (3 acres).
Inside the castle are ancient streets and buildings. It is most famous for its underground tunnels, which have three layers, connected by crisscrossing tunnels as long as 5 kilometers.
The tunnels are about 7 feet high and 6 feet wide.
The complicated tunnel system makes Zhangbi Ancient Castle a rare ancient underground military site in China.
Besides the tunnels, the gems here are the ancient temples and Ching residences.
