Antisemitism—Part 1

Ivan G. Marcus

In this 2024 hardcover book, How the West Became Antisemitic, Ivan G. Marcus, a professor of Jewish history at Yale University, argues that in medieval Europe, the Jews were not passive victims of the Christians.

Instead, the Jews were assertive and dueled with the Christians for the right to be considered God’s chosen people.

The enmity has now evolved from religious reasons into a racial one.

Nowadays, the Europeans who don’t have a favourable view of the Jews dislike them based on the belief that they are powerful and world-dominating.

I don’t use the term “antisemitism” as it’s a label that has been abused to silence proper discussions. More on that in the future.

This book study by Marcus traces the relationship between Christians and Jews in Europe from 800 to 1500.
