The late Colonel Forster owned the Lakehouse and Ye Olde Smokehouse.
These two hotels and YTL Cameron Highlands Resort by the Golf Course, are the only hotels worth staying in for the discerning travelers searching for the English colonial experience.
Lakehouse was built by Colonel Forster in 1966 and completed in 1970. Smokehouse was sold by his family on his demise to a local, Peter Lee. I was fortunate to have met him in one of my annual sojourns to Smokehouse for scones and English tea.
He has since passed on and Smokehouse is now run by his children. It is still in a state of organized disorder. A quaint charm.
