Xi Jin Ping – Part 1

Michael Sheridan, Kevin Rudd, Alfred L. Chan

There are 3 recent books on Xi Jin Ping.

The books are On Xi Jin Ping by Kevin Rudd, the former Australian Prime Minister, published in 2024, The Red Emperor by Michael Sheridan, published in 2024 and Xi Jin Ping by Alfred Chan, published in 2022.

Sheridan’s and Chan’s books are biographies. Both have some deficiencies. Chan’s book is thorough but dull. Worse, he ends his survey up to the year 2018.

Sheridan’s book is gripping. He makes a lot of striking statements but he has not provided any footnotes to support his statements. His book has no footnotes. Presumably, this is because as he said his book is for the general public. But the general reader is enlightened. He doesn’t accept at face value all statements that are made by a writer.

The stronger book of the lot here is the one by Kevin Rudd. He has provided 1000 footnotes. He said he did this as his previous book, The Avoidable War, was criticised for having no footnotes.
