Malaysia was formed on 16 Sep 1963 after a long process of negotiations between Malaya and Singapore, Sarawak, and North Borneo.
Brunei had wanted to join, but there was disagreement as to the ranking of its Sultan vis a vis the Sultans of the states in Malaya.
The Formation of the Federation of Malaysia is a compilation of reports by the ‘Sarawak by the Week’ issued by the Sarawak Information Service for the years 1961, 1962, and 1963.
It was compiled by Ho Ah Chon in 1991.
I found this book in an old Chinese shop in China Street, Kuching, Sarawak, on 14 Feb 2025.
These reports gives a flavour of the negotiations that led to Malaysia.
