Why does the US support Israel through thick and thin?
This question is the subject of two books—Our American Israel by Amy Kaplan, 2018, and The Arc of a Covenant by Walter Russell Mead, 2022.
Mead writes very well. His reading of the literature is vast, and he demonstrates a good command of the sources. One can find many gems in his narration.
And yet, readers who have an equally good command of the literature on the areas covered by him will note he has selectively picked facts to support his core position that Zionism is as American as apple pie.
